परंतु दुर्गा सप्तशती ग्रंथ वाचल्यावर देवी स्वतः मांसाहारीच नाही तर नरभक्षी असल्याचं आढळलं

देवी राक्षसांबरोबर युद्ध करतांना त्या सर्व राक्षसांना जिवंत खात असे,

रक्तबीज नावाच्या राक्षसाला मारल्या नंतर देवीने त्याचे सर्व रक्त पेऊन घेतले होते

वनवासात झोपडी बांधल्यानंतर दीर्घायुष्य मिळावे यासाठी राम लक्ष्मण झोपडीत प्रवेश करण्यापूर्वी हरणाचा बळी देतात

अरण्य कांड 73/15-16 मध्ये लक्ष्मण ने खाण्यासाठी मासेमारी केल्याचा उल्लेख आहे.

रावण वेश बदलून भिक्षा मागण्यासाठी आल्यावर सिता म्हणते,

माझे पती वन्य पदार्थ, गोह, जंगली सूअर यांचे मांस घेऊन येतच असतील
